Indian Youth Delegation 2009

Overview

The IYCN Agents of Change program aims to send a delegation of Indian Young people to the U.N. Climate Negotiations, with the next one being Conference of Parties 15 (COP 15) in Copenhagen, Denmark. The applicants are chosen from a highly qualified pool and our delegates should represent the diversity, enthusiasm, and skill of the budding youth climate movement in India. Hailing from both urban centers as well as rural areas, these dynamic Agents will strive to engage government delegations from around the world in policy, help build consensus amongst civil society groups and assist in the construction of a global youth climate network. These are the future climate leaders that India will look to in the years ahead. With youth making up 48% of the global population and India having approximately 700 million people classified as “youth,” these Agents aim to bring the voices of this massive population to this international forum and connect them with the global debate about their future

Planning for COP 15

Applications for CoP 15 have been processed, and the final Indian Youth Delegation has been finalized. This time, those selected will be funded, and we will try to see if we can also get many other Indian youth inspired enough, and with enough of their own financial resources, accredited to come to COP 15. This may include a slew of young professionals and researchers who might want to go independently but would instead feel better being associated with the “Indian Youth Delegation” and the prestige this may bring with it.
